This Valentine’s Day, the quickest way to someone’s heart is through these sweet little Message Heart Cupcakes.
What you’ll need
- 24 cupcakes, already baked and cooled (any flavor)
- 5 cups white decorating icing
- 4 sheets cardstock, each sheet should be a different color
- 24 toothpicks
- heart patterns (see step 1)
- 1 bag of candy message hearts
- permanent marker
These are easy enough to make a couple dozen for a school Valentine’s Day party.
How to make it
Trace one small heart shape and one large heart shape on a piece of paper. These will be your patterns for your message hearts. Cut out the hearts you drew.
Use the patterns you just cut out to trace small and large hearts onto your cardstock. You will need one small and one large heart for each cupcake. Once you are done tracing, cut out all your hearts.
Place 1 small heart on top of 1 large heart for each cupcake topper. Let your kids mix up the colors of the hearts any way they want so each finished topper is made from two 2 different colors.
Glue the small heart to the center of the large heart, and set it aside to dry for a few minutes.
Once the hearts are dry, let your kids use a felt tip, permanent marker, or a scrapbook marker to write a message in the center of the heart. Some fun messages for Valentine's Day include:
- “Be Mine”
- “I Love You”
- “Best Friends”
Turn the heart over, and glue a toothpick to the back with a small line of glue. Glue the toothpick so that half adheres to the back of the heart, and the other half sticks out below the heart to be inserted into the cupcake.
Once the cupcakes are cool, ice them with your favorite decorator icing. You can ice them with a knife, or use your favorite decorator tip and a pastry bag to make them fancier.
Let your kids insert the message heart into the center of each cupcake. Sprinkle a few candy message hearts in the icing.
